Mother of Seidr, the magick of both knowing and forming the future, Freya personifies Divine Feminine intuition, fertility, and creation. She is the Goddess of Blessings, Creativity, Fertility, Passion, and Love.
Profoundly kind, Gefn (the giver) shared her falcon feathered cloak that allowed the wearer to fly. Though, she never parted with her amber necklace, known as her Brísingamen, protecting it with the same ferocity and passion she had when fighting for her people and her own self-preservation.
Alexander the Great said, “whatever possession we gain by our sword cannot be sure or lasting, but the love gained by kindness and moderation is certain and durable.” A formidable warrior, Freya also preferred to persuade in more pleasant and passionate ways.
The Goddess of the Vanir used a gentler approach of loving-kindness to keep the peace between the Aesir-Vanir deities. A striking beauty, she wielded her sexuality like a sword in pursuing decency and desire.
Goddess Freya Inspired Metta Mediation
Metta Meditation is meant to cultivate loving-kindness not just as a feeling or pleasantry but as a state of being. It is more than being nice because niceties often fulfill an ego need; this is a selfless practice without attachment, desire, or intention.
You are focusing loving energy toward manifesting happiness and ending suffering, as Goddess Freya teaches. During the practice, the fundamental goal is not solely sending out love; it is the acknowledgment and release of all that blocks your capacity to give and receive it.
Traditionally, the intention is first set for oneself. Then the prayer is said for successively wider circles: Those closest to you, followed by those you feel neutral toward, those with whom you have difficulties, and, finally, all beings.
To Prepare
Sit in a comfortable posture. Begin to focus on the heart center, breathing in and out from that area. Anchor the mind on the sensations in the heart center.
You may wish to dress some crystals like rose quartz or amazonite in ritual oil, placing them nearby during your practice. Avoid rushing the words. Repeat the prayer mindfully and consciously. As you say or think the words, feel any area of mental blockage or numbness, judgment, or hatred. Then “drop beneath it.”Continue to breathe in and out.
The Practice
Feel free to add your own well wishes as you feel called.
It begins with well-wishes for yourself:
May I be safe
May I be happy
May I live with ease
Successive rounds typically direct the prayer to those close to you, those you feel neutral toward, then to those with whom you have difficulty, and finally closing with:
May all beings be safe
May all beings be happy
May all beings live with ease
